Golf outing to raise funds to fight prostate cancer | The Madison ...

This year will mark the fifth year that the family of Woody Dillion has held an 18-hole golf scramble to honor his memory and raise funds to fight prostate cancer.This year?s event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the London Country Club, 1199 Spring Valley Road, London.The first flight will be held at 7:30 a.m. The second flight will be held at 1 p.m.He was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 50. He persevered with a positive attitude and vowed to fight the disease. Through varied treatment approaches and a strong faith, he fought bravely for over 18 years. In January 2007 he passed on the fight to his family as he returned home to be at peace.He dearly loved the game of golf and thus his family chose to hold an annual golf scramble to raise funds which are then donated to help fight against this terrible disease.To date $34,700 has been raised and donated to the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus.Specifically, all funds have donated to the Prostate Cancer Prevention Fund No. 3023024 and to the work of Dr. Steven Clinton and his colleagues who are dedicated to finding a way to prevent prostate cancer.Dr. Paul Monk, an associate of Dr. Clinton, attended the outing last year and gave an up-to-date report on the research and success of Dr. Clinton?s research.Dr. Monk is planning to attend again this year and speak at noon during the lunch break.If you would like to play golf at the outing call Tim Dillion at (239) 494-2608 to register your team.?To be involved in any way call Nancy Dillion at (740) 852-6789.Friends of Woody is a 501?3 organization and all contributions are fully tax deductible.You can also find more information on the outing at www.friendsofwoody.org.
